Why Dream to Dram Tours?

After 3 years (2022, 23, 24) learning the ropes as a tour driver & guide, for Elite Golf Transport (and their 10 golf tour operator clients) as well as (since June 2014) for St Andrews Golf Travel too, I felt that the time was right (in August 2014) to strike out on my own as a luxury transport provider. So I’m now the proud owner of a Mercedes 8-seater sprinter bus and Founder of my new company Dream to Dram Tours.

A big big thank you to Dean & Colin at Elite and Marc & Graeme at St Andrews Golf Travel for entrusting me with the care of your clients these last few years. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it as I hope your clients have too…I hope this is not the end and we can continue to keep working together in the future.

My goal for this new venture is simple…to become the best tour driver & guide I can possibly be by always going “above & beyond” what’s expected of me by my clients.

My passion for the game of golf stems from playing the game since I was a wee boy (I’m a Crail Golfing Society & St Andrews Golf Club member) as well from a lifetime (35 years) of caddying at Crail, St Andrews, Kingsbarns and on the European Tour.

My passion for whisky came a little later from 2007 when I came up with an idea (my Dream to Dram) to create a whisky distillery & visitor centre by the home of golf St Andrews at Kingsbarns within sight of the Golf Links where I caddie(d). With the help of a Scottish Government / EU grant and the Wemyss family I finally turned my dream into reality in 2014 when the distillery opened. I then worked there as Visitor Centre Manager and a Director before deciding it was time to move on in 2017. You can watch a highlights film of my journey on my YouTube channel below…

The phrase “Dream to Dram” was conjured up by Jamie Jauncey (the writer Wemyss hired to help with the Kingsbarns brand) in the summer of 2014 just before the distillery opened to describe my journey from golf caddie to distillery founder. So you can imagine how amazing it felt to see this phrase as the first thing that visitors saw in the distillery exhibition at the start of their tour and in a lot of the branding literature. The media seemed to like the phrase too. However for me the ultimate honour was when the first flagship Kingsbarns whisky was named Dream to Dram (now sadly discontinued and replaced by Doocot). To celebrate this I got my first tattoo with Dram to Dram written onto the Glencairn Glass next to the Kingsbarns bottle which made the headlines in the Scotsman newspaper and Whisky Explorer Magazine.

So when it came to naming my new tour company it seemed the natural choice to name it after the phrase that has become, over the years, part of my identity. Now all of you I’m sure have your own dreams…I hope that some of you have the dream of coming to Scotland to explore our magical country and its golf courses, whisky distilleries and castles. So my next big dream is to help you turn your Scotland travel dream into reality by driving, guiding and entertaining you on your trip. And if you are a dram lover then, to be sure, I’ll be treating you to a few drams as we journey around Scotland together!

Slainte & I hope to see you soon….
